ALBANIA - General Information

Albania is located in South Eastern Europe, bordering the Adriatic Sea, between Greece, Monte Negro, Kosovo and Macedonia (ex Republics of Yugoslavia Federation), Latitude/Longitude 41 grade 19‘ N/19 grade 27’ E. This is a strategic location along the Strait of Otranto ( which links the Adriatic Sea to the Jonian Sea).

Albania has a total surface of 28,748 km2, ( land 27.938 km2, water 1,350 km2) a coast line 362 km and a population 3,500.000. The Capital city is Tirana. It’s Terrain is mostly mountains, hills and small plains along the coast. Their natural resource includes petroleum, natural gas, coal, chromium, coppers, timber and nickel.

Durres is located at the northern end of the Bay of Durres at latitude 41o 19’N., longitude 19o 27’E.

Tourism and Tradition

The long beach of Durres is among the largest along the Adriatic coast-line. The fine yellow sands, the warm waters and healthy climate are well-known by the tourists, who pas their vacations in Albania. From year to year these beaches attract tourists from different countries of the world, who are accommodated in numerous hotels all along the coast. Restaurants, bars, terraces and taverns of the hotels are available as well. In addition to this, sports grounds, sea cruises, etc. are at the disposal of tourists for their entertainment and recreation.

Quite interesting are also the excursions to Durres city, where you can visit a great number of attractions such as the Castle, the Amphitheatre which belongs to the 2nd century AD with a capacity to accommodate 15,000 spectators, the Archaeological Museum, many mosaics, ancient public baths, etc.

Durres is famous for its excellent seafood, a large variety of fishes and sea-fruits, pickles, various vegetables and fruits of natural flavors and as fresh  as a daisy, and as well as many traditional dishes like fish cooked on baking earthenware and tiles, yogurt and lamb, etc.
